Hey Everyone,
I initially thought this was Poplar, and was going to put it aside, until the farmer down the road stopped by. He swears up and down that it isn't Poplar - and that I should burn it next year. It was standing dead, and where I cut it, there were Red Oaks, White Oaks, Gum, Beech, and Hollies. Thanks in advance.

The Bark says silver maple.
Color isn't right though.

Maybe bieng standing dead has something to do with the orangish hue?

Stay safe!

The two upright pieces look kind of dark for Silver maple, but the bark looks right. Maybe it's just bad lighting.

:agree2:

I havn't seen alot of punky maple like that though. I'd split that crap out and toss it, but it may be too much work with a maul....

do you have any other pictures of bark? the color kinda looks like cherry, but the bark doesn't say that, and i'm not sure how much cherry you have down there..... i think it is a maple species. any idea how long it's been standing dead? Hi Gus!!
