We have two apple trees in the back yard of the house we just purchased. How can we tell when the apples are ripe? One tree has medium size green apples and the other one has smaller apples that are turning red. The apples of both trees are beginning to fall from the branches. Thank you.

The best way is to pick up the windfalls every day. If you plan to can or sause a large quantity, then take abite. My favorite way of inspecting the crop.
