Hi all... I live in the Chicago suburbs and have 3 twelve year old Austrian pines growing next to each other on the West side of my house. I have been treating them for the past 4 years for Dothistroma needle blight (thanks to members of this site for diagnosing that). Since the Doth seemed in check I decided not to treat them this year but monitor them very closely. They all are looking fine in regards to the Doth but I just noticed the new leader shoots on the middle tree have all died and wilted. From what I've read I'm suspecting possibly Northern Pine Weevil. I would appreciate any opinions, advice, whatever. Thanks Robb
If you look at the base of the ranking leader there is a brown spot that could possibly be some sort of cocoon. Also, as shown in picture 2, there is some wood pecker damage about halfway up the trunk.
