I bought a used saw that came with two bars, one .050 gauge and the other .058. Chains are 3/8 pitch. Is it kosher to switch between gauges or is the drive sprocket specific as to gauge?

Sprockets can be used with different gauge chain but bars have to match the gauge or the chain will wonder in the cut. It is easier to keep the gauge the same between all your saws and have matching bars but that is up to you.

Dave's right. It will "wonder" if it wants to wander and not cut straight.

Ditto no probs with the sprocket as long as it's 3/8's pitch chain, the gauge won't matter.

Thanks guys.

Now one more question if you will. Do the # of teeth on the bar sprocket and on the rim sprocket need to match?
