the safe way is to have about 5-6 or more deep cell boat batterys and have a powerrful inverter that converts 12v to 110 v current that is the safest way
one more reason to have QUIET generators, and put them in the back yard out of site. I love my little EU2000i's. Hardly make any noise at all, and use very little fuel.
To run the 1500W heater, when it is -20. it is a nice comfort, also those of us that are 40+ need to go for a short walk in the night, we turn on the camp light
outside.

Good idea, though you would still need a generator to charge the batteries.the safe way is to have about 5-6 or more deep cell boat batterys and have a powerrful inverter that converts 12v to 110 v current that is the safest way
Lol, that's why I bank snow around the outhouse. My uncle had an outhouse. During the winter an icy draft came up from underneath the seat. I got on and off that outhouse seat in a hurry.
Ya, I can't believe it, we're experiencing a winter not too much different from Southern Ontario. It must be absolutely gorgeous this time of the year.

The funniest thing I ever saw was a guy scrambling out of an outhouse with his pants still down. The house hadn't been used in quite a while, and there was a nest of wasps under the seat. An icy draft is no big deal.
That's a funny visual. Here's one about grandma dumping gas down the center seat of the outhouse and grandpa lighting his pipe. One reason is they get stolen outside. Chaining them to a tree is about useless, because that is just a bolt cutter away from stolen. I have heard of theives quickly adding a very long extention cord to the generator. The homeowner doesn't realize the short loss of power. Then the theives just start to carry the generator off and its in the truck before the homeowner can "get them".
A shotgun and shovel would really help with a lot of these cases. Especially since the law enforcement services are already maxed out, they can't investigate every loud BOOM, that gets reported. One or two graves in the back yard will go mostly unoticed if flowers are quickly planted in the spring.
Just here to help,
Sam

After 2009 ice storm, several people died from generator exhaust
into their homes. They are handy if you don't have electricity, but
CO, carbon monoxide from exhaust will kill if not vented properly.
I didnt have elect. for 2 weeks,,and was lucky I was on the ball and called sears up the first thing when my elect. went out and they put me on a pickup list....Now I got home,,and was wondering...I have a long,,,wide poarch and did a drop cord where my gen. couldnt get wet,,but was wondering what if I didnt have a poarch,,where would I have put it where it wouldnt get hammered with the weather....Maybe some folks can come on here and tell what they had to do in that situation....I also made sure,,even it was outside,,it was away from any doors or windows.....Hope to see some good safe tips here....
What if you didnt have a detached garage,, barn....Just a home with no cover over it...Kinda what I was gettin at....The instructions with my gen. said save the box for a cover,,and I thought,,,thats gotta be insane,,me going to bed and have a cardboard box covering the motor,,and it catches on fire and someone burns to death....
