People have posted pictures of their insert or wood stove burning and the bed of coals but I have never seen one of an OWB. Here is mine.

Also I have heard all the pros and cons on a blower assisted draft on OWB. Since my stove has a blower I am of course on the pro side. :) Here is a picture of the foot deep bed of coals in my stove after 14 hours. Since the blower kicks on and gets the temp up so quick, when the damper closes and smothers the fire down it turns any unburned wood to charcoal.

Sorry about the quaility. It was taken with a cell phone.

I would post a pic of mine but

I have it stoked pretty full won't need wood til late tonight now.

CB ash removal

How do you clean the ashes out of the CB units? I own the Hardy and there is a door on the bottom of the unit for removing ashes. Just curious. Thanks

Shovel!:)

About once a month when the mood and the fire cooperate I shift the bed of coals and charcoal to one side and shovel out the ash and then shift everything over to the other side of the fire box and shovel out the rest. Takes about 10 minutes.
