I have just got a 24" alasken mill what is the best power head to use?

My Husky 359 seems a little under powered.

Yeah, I'd think that it would be a bit underpowered, even for occasional milling use. I'd look to something in at least the 390 and preferably the 395 range for best results.

I have used a 365 for milling. Although it gets slow in a cut over 12". I mill softwoods mostly.

Bigger the better. With a 24", a 372, 385, Dolmar 7900, Stihl 441/460 would do okay. I run a 3120 on 36", so you see where I'm coming from.

I use a 394xp with good success.

Do a muffler mod on that 359 and you might get away doing small softwood.I use 066s and my favorite 394 & 395 saws for most milling as i do 20'+ hardwood most the time.
