My mother has a beautiful 18" shallow, round glass bowl w ornate flowers cast in. It's sitting on a stump in the backyard now as a birdbath. I was thinking about cutting down a small tree w 3 or 4 branches to surround and hold the bowl level as a natural looking stand leaving some of the limbs/branches above the bowl for the birds to sit on. I was thinking to peel the bark off the tree and trying to seal it so it would last for a while. What kind of wood would be best? I'm fixin to cut down a large Holly in my yard and It has some branches that might work but I'm wondering if Holly would be a good choice? The bark is so smooth I wonder If I could just try to seal it ? any advice?
