It can, but most of the time the wood just glow's and the cat eats the smoke.
 
Yes and No. Yes it will when you burn the stove for 24 hours on a full load of wood. No if you burn that same load of wood in 8 hours.
 
Dont have much experience with the cat stoves, but have heard and read that the cats wont normally give you a very active flame, and if it is important to you to have flame to watch, go with a secondary combustion type stove.

there are also hybrid type stoves with both a cat and tubes they also may want to look at
