Got a dose of Arnica Montana applied to my vascular necrotic bone joint shoulder yesterday, man what a difference. Also the injection came with a bottle of pills to dissolve under my tongue when the pain gets severe. An alternative to cortizone injection, which only lubricates then leaves you with a steroid buzz.

I recommend this stuff to all us old timers who still monkey ourselves out.

Did you have to go to a Witch Dr. for that or can it be done at a Gen. Practice??? I've used the clear ointment with nice results,:) I also like the pillows that you heat in the microwave for body aches.

I do naproxin twice daily for my back knees and general rumatizz aches and pains. Vitamine N to me.

Lotsa mentholated waxes too like Icey-Hot.

Arnica 30c (pellets) and 2000mg ester-c before bed after a hard days work.
Streroids are a no-no for anyone that has ever had Lyme and pretty awful for everyone else too.
The homeopathics are available over the counter by pill or cream. Also had some calendula cream that worked really well.
God Bless All,
Daniel

Monkeypuzzle, I quit going to M.D.'s about two years after my bone marrow transplant. That was nine years ago with one exception - the head-on truck collision, and that only strengthened my resolve to stay away from operating rooms, clinics, and specialists.

I know too much about bacillus and antibiotic resistance.

If something goes wrong like my joints disjoining, or this wasting disease due to capillaries dissolving from total body radiation, I go where I trust my dogs to....my veterinarian. She's a miracle worker (I signed a consent form to keep her legal). DVM's rule!!

Other than that, some healing times floating in my river with a beer, some contemplative moments up a tree, and some good tunes over Texas Rebel Radio.

JPS.....I smell like ICYHOT all the time! You know you can get it in 1 quart containers? It's for race horses and ten times cheaper than the pharmacy.

The Advil comercials are right. All I usualy need is on pill twice a day. Part of my disability, I pree poaid for them in my youth.

The got an IceyHot in a stick like a deoderant, I thought it looked great till I saw it was twice the price for half the product.

:)

Actually you can do four at a time for 800mg each dose to a max of 3200 per day; this is the prescription strength-those puny 200 and 300 mg tablets are the over the counter variety.

Advil/Motrin

I have degenerative disc disorder in my entire back, two crushed lower discs, a bum foot that I broke 24 years ago and swollen hands-I live on Advil. If I do not take it all I can wear is bedroom slippers because of the swelling-with it I lead a pretty normal and active life, but I take 16 over the counter caplets every day (with my doc's blessing) I did take Celebrex but that stuff is $96 for 25 days worth, where as I can buy 400 generic Advil for about $15 , and for the time being it works well.

Some thing you might consider trying for severe pain is acupuncture-I had it in my back and also in my arm after my accident and surgury on the latter three years ago and found it really helped, in conjunction with physio. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, but it worked for me.

Highly recommend a topical analgesic.. Olba's Oil, in place of the icy hot. It's a hot blend primarily of essential oils. Good for what ails.
Sore joints, muscles, feet, inflamation, sprains, sunburn, colds etc.. I mix it with good olive oil for a massage oil and it lasts a while. I try not to put anything on my skin that I wouldn't eat.
You can order from Dunn Health Enterprises 215-443-7179.

Much better than Advil is glucosamine/chrondoitin sulfate, MSM, together with some good herbs. some products better than others. In the long term, results are great, and achieved naturally without the negative aspect of drugs, which I avoid like the plague.

I recently got some "Super Blue Stuff", which is emu oil with MSM, glucosamine and herbs. The emu oil works a lot like DMSO in that it crosses the epidermal layer. This stuff really works. Emu oil is a fabulous oil, much like flax seed oil, salmon oil, borage seed oil, which all lower bad cholesterol and raise the good. Emu oil can be taken internally with great results.

Food to avoid, which are the worst poison to the body, are trans fatty acids, mainly heated oils, fried foods, generic margarine and mayo. Believe it, they are one of the main reasons America is so sick, overweight, and laden with heart disease. Of course, fatty meats, processed junk, all pop, excess sweet foods, all simple carbos like white bread, and especially Nutrasweet (POISON!) dont help much either.

My goal is to ski off a 30 foot cliff into deep powder when I'm 70.. and still be doing tree work, if I want to ....

Your body is a temple, watch what you put into it.

Sorry for the rant.

Speaking of sick, here's what phytophthera can do...shame, eh

RB,
good rant for those that can open their minds a little. From a holistic perpective the pain is there to tell you something.. like take your hand off the stove.. except here it's more like "stop the poison". Or another way of saying it is you're not in pain cause you have an aspirin deficiency.
Doesn't the glucosomine take 30 days before any results are felt?
I gotta get back to this stuff.. taking better care of my body.
Whaetgrass juice anyone?
God Bless,
Daniel

Great if it works for you, use it! I did not have much luck going this route.

You left olive oil out of the above list.

You left out Canada as well! I am amazed at the porky teenagers prevalent in our society. it is one thing to develop a gut in your middle age, but entirely another to be 50 lbs overweight in your late teens/early 20s. I agree 100% with the above, though I have not seen any studies to back up your comments on Nutrasweet. I have stopped buying margarine and use exclusively olive oil, which apparently is supposed to be good for you in moderation (as in all things) . Fortunately I do not really like sweet things at all. I guess my one no-no is white bread, but I make it myself so what the heck. Normally I eat whole wheat.

You are what you eat (and drink)-I agree 100% that a healthy diet is of paramount importance to keep in check those health issues that are common as we get older. I still hurt on occasion, but I manage to keep moving, which is the other important thing, because if you stop you never will start again. You want to ski and climb at 70-I want to jump and play hockey. Good luck

Some interesting reading here- members.tripod.com/linda6987/quotes/aspertame.html I guess it comes down to a choice of believing a bunch of nuts hawking a natural lifestyle (my choice, believe it or not), or believing corporate America, who will push a product until enough people die from it and they take it off the market.

Thanks dave.

I haven't read up on the aspartame/ Monsanto/ US govt collusion for a long time. But that story reeks.

http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/

is good for starters. Any of you guys drink diet pop? Well, do a little reading, i think your stomach will turn....

Especially if you know about the health benefits (and sweetening power) of stevia, an awesome rainforest herb--and the FDA restriction on what it can be labeled as usable for.

Jumper,

Yep, olive oil is great.

I've also read of the curative qualities of olive leaf extract. apparently they are quite remarkable.
