Bosch or NGK Resistor Plug

My Stihl manual says to use either a Bosch WSR 6 F OR a resistor - type NGK BPMR 7 A. When would I need to use a resistor type of a plug? Is one superior to the other? Can someone jump in here and help set me straight?

From what I recall in my motorcycle days the resistor was required due to FCC regulations so that the radio frequency emitted would not cause interference with communications equipment i.e., CB radios.

Idk, i use bpmr7a's in pretty much everything except my backpack blower, which takes a cmr7 or something like that. I cant help with the "why" of the resistor plugs, sorry.

I started using NGK's way back in the mid to late 60's. I can still remember when they sold for like $0.59 ea. I have used a Bosch now and then, and they seem to be okay.

But, if I had to choose a brand, it would be NGK.

over the last 35 years or so in commercial logging we have used almost if not all brands of still in production & many that have exited the market the only brand that we have not suffered a problem with is Nippon Denso the # for popular models is W22MP - U

In a chainsaw or any O P E, no benefit to using a resistor plug.

Unless of course, you may have some kind of a high-end stereo mounted to it.
