It is not the easiest engine to rebuild. Flat head, valve in block so seats have to be done in engine. Valve clearance is established by grinding stem; that may have been changed to an adjustable lifter in yours, but is time consuming.
 
Good luck trying to find parts, you might have better luck putting a different brand of engine in it.

You will likely be able to pick up a good used one cheaper than rebuilding. I found parts to be more expensive than automotive engine parts. If you need a total rebuild, from crank bearings, to pistons and valve guides, seats etc., it will be very pricey and is not a one day job for a do it yourselfer.
 
any good leads on used Wis. Engines . thanks for all the wisdom , Ive only been doing this for 2 years seriously now and yoou gus seem to know your ???? on this w.w.w.site also i only go a computer a week ago ,new mini mac
 
Go to Google search and do a search for "Wisconsin VG4D parts" Another soource for used complete engines should be used agricultural parts or tractor parts salvage companies. You may even find something on EBAY.That engine was used on a lot of agricultural equipment, pumps etc.
