I am thinking of buying a new stihl saw. I know the saw I want. Just wondering if stihl requires you to purchase a bar and chain with the saw? I have numerous bars to fit the saw I want. So the question is can you purchase powerhead only? Does the bar and chain come at a discounted price when purchased with a saw? Thanks

I do believe that they will sell you a powehead only. As far as the price goes they should knock some off for just the powehead but I dont think it will be the amount that they are selling bars and chains for on the shelf. For instance my local dealer sells the MS 261 for $529.99 and would probablly sell me the powerhead only for $500. A new bar is about $40 and the chain is about $17. Sometimes I have trouble typing what i'm thinking so I hope you catch my drift. LOL
