hi all,

I have a 029Super. I opened up the muffler a little last night...not much compared to what I have seen here, just drilled a couple of holes...wanted to start small and go from there. IMO the saw runs a little rich before the mod. I run 40:1, not 50:1 that Stihl recommends. How much would I need to fatten my mixture? My plug burns a dark chocolate color now. Should I take the saw out and run it for a while then check the plug again? Is there any definite way to tell you have it dialed in right? Any help would be great.

The definate way is to use a tach, and set it at factory WOT.
You can also do it by ear. Madsen's has a great section on carb adjustment, including a wave file that lets you hear what it sounds like when you tune.

If you would have posted this in the "Chainsaw" forum, you would get more "hits" on it. Maybe one of the mods can move it for you.
