the only time Ive ever heard someone refer to a cats paw, they were talking about when a limb hitch gets stuck. Like the rope flipping around a stub or something. But I was raised on dinosaur talk. Like you snag, not wrap...

I met an old time logger and he was trying to show me a catspaw, used to attach and adjust my lanyard. he had too many beers, and basically tied a figure eight. I humored him, then did a bit of research. is the catspaw the same as a becket hitch, shown here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Becket_hitch

any other pics or vids showing a catspaw?

Yes I have heard the becket hitch referred to as a "cat's paw".

we use it to attach the rope to the hook on the winch because it doesnt tighten up and become untiable. i think the name cat's paw has been given to a few knots.

Cat's paw

That was what I used when I first started climbing. One inch flip line and huge D's. Would be hard to imagine using it now. But I'll try tomorrow.

according to the guy i met, the catspaw is the safest, most reliable way to attach and adjust your lanyard. if this were true, wouldnt everyone be using it?

Its for the old time leather belts with the big cable ropes.
its what we use in high school for our forestry competitions when you do the pole climb it doesent loosen up and you can adjust it real easy. Its what they use in the timbersports series.
