ok, since I cant recall this being discussed much before. lets get into discussing the angles everyone likes on their chains, top plate, side plate, all those.

For me, on all chains I normally like a 25 degree top plate, no matter what kind of cutter it is. I've had decent results with that angle, I'm now trying a 35 degree on my larger chains to see how it performs for me.

So far I have seen no reason not to follow manufacturers recomendations - 25% on Oregon LP/LG, 30% on 95VP and Stihl RM and RSC.

I think I will try 30% on LP for a while, and see if there is a difference.....

I file all my saws at 30 degrees. That's the way it was taught to me by my Father and I've stuck with it. Also, all the brand new chains I've seen come at that angle.
