I seldom cut in dry dusty areas but have a few times in my lifelong experiences. Have seen what dust laden wood does to a chain, sand in the bark also, it removes that fine sharp edge in the chrome that is needed to dig in to the wood . The cutter may feel sharp to a finger touch but its lost that keen top edge.
