CITY FORESTER/NATURAL RESOURCES SUPERVISOR
PARKS, RECREATION AND PUBLIC LANDS DEPARTMENT
This position will be responsible for tree care and maintenance programs within the City of Billings.
Responsibilities include planning, developing and implementing comprehensive Urban Forestry and
Natural Resources programs; training and supervision of staff; work scheduling; development and
management of grants, contracts and in-house projects in developed parks, natural area park lands,
public open space and other public facilities and properties. Examples of programs to be managed
are: park trees, Horticulture programs, tree inventories and GIS mapping, tree and landscape
installations, natural resources management, nuisance and noxious weed management and other city
wide vegetation management programs. The position requires strong interpersonal skills and the
ability to work closely with the general public and community groups.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in forestry, urban forestry, horticulture, natural resources or closely related
field
• 2 or more years of combined education and experience
• Commercial, Class B Type II driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire
• Experience with city government and knowledge of department operations preferred
• International Society of Arboriculture Arborist certification – or ability to obtain one within 6
months of hire
• Montana Department of Agriculture Government Applicator License -- or ability to obtain one
within 6 months of hire
Salary:
• Annual salary range for this position is $44,112 - $58,238, plus excellent benefits
