Seems to be decent smelling wood to me. We have tons and tons of crabapple trees and I find myself with the wood quite often. Any opinions as to whether it's the same as applewood on the smoker? I just began my foray into small-time smoking with a Brinkmann at home.

I think it is even better than apple, and it can be smoked as soon as you chop it down.
Apple seems to add a bitter taste to the meat if it has not sat for awhile.

I like to soak my wood over night in either water or apple cider.

Hope this helps
