Craftsman 3.7 serial number interpretation

I am working on a Craftsman 3.7 for a friend. Model number begins with 358 which from the site it appears to be a Poulan made (3700). How can I tell what year this was made from the serial number: A2653178 ?

Have not been able to find how to decode this serial number. Thanks

Not sure you can decode the serial number. Here is some Poulan 3700 info - made 1980-1983

Hmm.....I wonder if Poulan used different serial number systems for their Poulan saws and the re-badged saws?

sears model number 358 corresponds to Poulan . Roper would be 355, 647,835 or 917

I like these saws. You have to try one to understand the quality that Poulan once delivered.

I have the grey and black one. Awesome saw. Mine is in need of a carb kit though. It also sports a green Poulan 3800 recoil. One day I will replace it with the correct grey one.
