Smoke Dragon Herder
Began removing the old zero clearance fire place this past Saturday.
I only had to chisel out one row of bricks to get it out. It took a couple careful, tedious hours to get it out without damaging anything but I did it.

I picked up the new chimney pipe Saturday morning and while I was out also filled the truck and trailer with wood that I had previously cut on a site about 30 minutes from home.
On the way home with the backseat of the truck packed with chimney pipe and the bed and trailer packed full of wood Momma and I stopped at a yard sale and found this antique tea kettle to place on the stove for humidity.
I removed the inner liner of the old triple wall chimney on Friday and the secondary liner on Saturday. I left the outer pipe in place and slid the new double wall insulated chimney down the center of that. I didn't have to but I thought it would offer even more protection as well as keeping the flue nice and warm for good draft.
Instead of purchasing the bracket to support the tee pipe I am building one. I still need to purchase the thimble to go through the wall as well as the adapter to go from this double wall to single wall black pipe. From there its a short section of black pipe, an elbow and a damper.
Unfortunately I'm out of cash so I need to save some more before I can finish the install.
The cap on the tee is not insulated and I think I may need to buy one. The one that's on it seems pretty flimsy.
This is the view in the garage. (with the old chimney) The chimney chase is half in the garage and half above the roof so it makes it convenient for working on and for cleaning out this winter.
All of the pipe before installing it. It was a trip. I decided to put it all together and tote it up on the roof and pick the entire length up and slide it down the old chimney pipe. It took three of us and it was quite heavy and awkward but we did it.
The new stove will sit in front of the existing opening which will be drywalled and bricked back in with the face brick that is on the rest of it. Can't wait to finish it!
