I found one of these growing at my parents farm under a pine tree. It makes seed pods after it blooms and I managed to start a couple at our place. The plant isn't very pretty, but it has interesting blooms. We have no idea what this thing is. Anybody out there ever seen one before? Please excuse the out-of-focus shot, but this was the best I had taken that was on the computer tonight. Also, please ignore the salvia and other vines growing up with it.

Thanks for looking,

Aesculus pavia - Red Buckeye

Maybe...will grow in zone 8. Is this in Northern FL? The flower resembles Red Buckeye. What do the leaves look like?

The flowers...

remind me of Honeysuckle though. Pictures of leaves will probably result in ID.

Hi Elmore,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, its in Northern Florida / Southern Alabama. The flowers do look very similar, but the leaves are different. I realize its difficult to make much sense from the photo, but you can see leaves from it in the lower and middle left region of the pic. The leaves look sorta like a duck's foot. There are 3 lobes. Two are 180 degrees apart and are rounded and the third is sharper pointed and extends perpendicular to the other 2 and is inline with the leaf's stem. If weather permits I'll attempt some newer photos later in the day.

Thanks again,
Dan

Looks like vharrison2 pegged this one! We've never heard of coral bean before, but that's positively it. Thanks so very much for everyone's help.
