Steve, have you outfitted a CS-490 with a shorter 14 or 16" bar? I'll bet it's not all that heavy and well balanced plus a pound or so heavier than the less powerful CS-400 would make for a great saw to keep in my side-by-side or on the Quad for small blow downs and limbing jobs on my property.

I'm not overly impressed with the CS-490 with the 18-20" bars, it woln't hold a candle to my CS-510 or either one of my Husqvarna closed-port 55's, but I'm considering one as a limbing saw with shorter bar on it........Cliff

I love the 590/600 stock, muffler modded, ported all good

I haven't fooled around with 2 stroke engines for years, back when I flew model airplanes, I think I'll be modifying mine soon after it arrives.
I once made a tuned pipe for one of my glow plug engines using a brazing torch and some sheet metal, looked like crap but it worked.

So i'm gonna chime in on the echo cs 590...short story one found its way to me from a friend pops but flames come out the air box....turns out stripped out threads for spark plug..fixed time sert insert starts and runs....never had on in my hands...looking round while fixing it....nice built lot of pro like features.....did a slight muffler mod removed "deflector baffle" and tuned it. Forward to today some fire wood work. Felled two 18-20 inch oak heavy leaners...on the ground no problem. Used 346 for tops and small 268 (later open port) felling and bucking and the echo for bucking as well. 268 and echo 3/8 20 inch bars but 268 063 gauge...I felt the echo a great saw for the price claimed here. Trees were pretty frozen 590 didn't have quite the balls as the 268 but it's got game and the av real smooth after running the 268...I would have no problem recommending the echo over some of the other brands if someone looking for a saw in that size and wants something better than a farm like saw..It does fell bulky....for the size if feel like it should be 70cc...but I now understand the attraction...nice day for wood work bout 25 with solid ground. The echo was in the barn and farted 2nd pull and was running choke in 3rd pull....I did pull the limiters and tune it....oh I did clean the air filter..

happy holidays folks

the can
Great story brother. I too agree with all you described and I wonder what a mildly modified woods ported 590 would be like against your 268? Even if it came close that would be a killer 59cc saw in my opinion.

Hey brother do you have any details you could share on your port job im wanting to do mine but I see alot of people causing more problems then making power when porting the 590. Right now I figured I might just open up everything some smooth and polish transfers and exhaust. Id love some feedback.
