I have 6 pine Trees around my house that I need to drop(approx.30' to 50' high) I want to do it my self, but don't have all the equipment. Whaere are some places to purchase spikes and the like at a reasnable price??

I'm not sure about your arboricultural background, but I would be leary about doing the work yourself if you are a beginner...... especially if you are going to be spurring the trees yourself. Even if the trees are 30', that is still high enough for you to fall to your death. Just something to think about. Yes, hiring an arborist will cost more than doing it yourself, but they have the insurance to cover them if something were to go wrong............would you, if a tree fell the wrong way?

If you are just new to the site and are an experienced arborist, ignore my gibberish!

These are advanced but reachable topics. There is no replacemeant for experience, a picture of the puzzle and obstacles is a nice idea.

If you could find a good tree guy locally to drop the trees for you, it shouldn't cost much. Less than the cost of those spurs and saddle, which could kill you if you don't know how to use them safely.
A basic saddle, spurs and lifeline will cost about $500 and up. I put 4 pine trees on the ground for a guy yesterday for $200. It took me 6 hours and nobody got hurt and there was ZERO property damage. If the trees were able to be dropped, it would have cost much less.

Most people don't understand the dangers involved in climbing trees. It is easily compared to rock climbing. Would you consider climbing a sheer cliff face with only a cheap, used saddle and some Home Depot rope? And ZERO training?

Beagleman I would not suggest you climb anything without having someone there that is able to rescue you should something go wrong. Call your local emergency people and ask if they have practiced a tree rescue, and if so, ask their time to get the victim to the ground.

I believe it's 7 minutes hanging unconcious in a saddle before you begin to do permanent physical dammage from the blood constriction caused by hanging from your waist like that.

Get your neighbor to come over, get a rope, and ladder and mabe put an edge on the axe. What other equip. could you possibly need?:blob2:
