Today we went up to the Bully Scoop Fire Lookout. What an amazing view! We even saw a fire startup to the east. At nearly 7000’ elevation it was a beautiful day and a bit cold with the wind up there. Also a great view of Mt Shasta.

This is a fire tower that sets on top of Buffalo Mountain in Northeast Tennessee just out side of Johnson City. Was up their riding the trail system up their today. They tore off the building and made an observation deck on it. Very nice ride getting their and a great view once you get there.

I lived in Baughman Lookout Tower, western Douglas County Oregon for a month or so in about 1979 or 1980. It was the Cadillac of towers then, a big 14' X 14' live aboard. In SW Oregon we had lots of fire towers, most are long gone now, including Baughman. It really was an interesting and peaceful job, but not without some down sides. The big live a-boards were great, I had a gas stove, bed, storage, radio, etc all staged around the firefinder in the middle of the tower, plus a catwalk around the entire outside. Take a look at the small 7X7's... that's no fun at all comparatively. On the other hand, when night comes they get cold, which is fine, but then when daybreak hits they are like a greenhouse and heat up miserably fast, remaining that way until the sun finally rises up above the eaves. (Something most people wouldn't think of anyways.) Firefighting was a lot more fun and, it was hard to listen to the sqwak on a big fire and not be able to do anything to assist. I'd rather run a saw all day, which I often did for about 10 years.

I forgot to snap some pictures when I was here last summer but when I lived in Ohio we went here frequently.

These are pictures I took off of Google. Tower and view.
