Thanks ahead for suggestions. I cleaned out the fireplace for the year and noticed one corner of the terracotta flue is exposed where it meets the firebox and widens out. Looks like perhaps some of the concrete has broken away exposing the corner. I don't want any heat and or fire going up the outside of the flue. Can I just take a couple handfuls of high temperature firebox cement and blob it on to cover the exposed flue? Anyone see any problems with this? No lectures on getting a professional please, I'm not rich, and this is not rocket science.

Thanks!
