So the demo version of MOTA will do all this for you without having to buy the actual software?

mota will give the dimentions for a strraight pipe, but i just googled for a cone layout program and i used the first free demo i could find. kinda annoying though when using it cause it keep popin up a window asking if you want to register(buy) now. i put in the piece 1st diameter, angle, 2nd dia., angle and length and hit print. repeated my process with all the sections and cut it out and taped it all together. which was a pain, cause i didnt have any construction paper, just plain printer paper.
 
Here's what I've been wondering about. So you have your lengths from the design. Once you curve the pipe, you have to either lengthen or shorten one side. Or do you split the difference to keep the distance down the centerline to the original design?

I imagine the software does the equivalent of cutting a wedge out from the center, bending the edges together, and adding the removed wedge to the opening made. This maintains length and the proper increase in diameter as the pipe bends.
 
That layout looks Good! When you build the flange, make sure you can get a wrench in there to tighten the bolts. Sometimes a tight bend at the flange will make it tuff.
 
for the gasket, I go down to the local auto parts store and buy a header gasket for a small block Chevy. There's usually a spot somewhere on there big enough to cut out your new saw gasket. The white Mr. Gasket ones are easy to cut.

You can make the whole thing up as a straight pipe then cut and flip at each angle change necessary. If you want a 10 Deg. change cut the pipe at a 5 degree angle, flip one piece 180 degree and reweld.

A modification of the Y cut and transpose the v fillet to the other side (which I think Edisto is getting at) looks a little classier but more work. Either method basically leaves the center line length the same. Your original layout should allow for the length lost by the 8 to 10 hacksaw kerfs which could be a factor especially if you were near the short side on your design.

Lots of auto parts places carry 22 ga sheet, You only need 2-3 square feet for a pipe. So a 3x5 autobody sheet will make half a dozen pipes.

I had been avoiding this thread but I'm glad I read through it.

Certainly adding a pipe is a work of love and devotion, besides testing all one's skills and abilities. At this point all I can do is clean up an old saw and try to make it run.

TW, when I saw the photo in post #33 the blood started to run to my...well let's just say that thing is flat out exciting!

cut out shapes with tin snips. man my hands are tired! and hammered out with 3/4 inch extension in the vise changing out sockets as i go to fit the size I needed.

That looks good! looks like the pipe runs close enough to the chainbrake so that it can't be set when dead starting?;)

chain brake will work. hard holding pipe in the right spot with one hand and the camera in the other!

Don't have a tig, I read that mig cracks bad, so oxy is it.
