Hi im completely new to tree climbing and im looking at starting out simple. For equipment i was thinking of arbor-plex 150 foot rope

http://store.baileys-online.com/cgi-bin/baileys/602?mv_session_id=8jGRq96w&product_sku=12AP 150

and this harness http://gear.sherrilltree.com/iwwidb.pvx?;multi_item_submit

my main questions on the harness is it going to be comfortable when suspended

The technique I am planning on using is the double-rope technique, so any advice anyone has it would be greatly appreciated. Oh yes one last thing im planning to get and thats the tree climbers companion.

Welcome to AS...

I started out climbing on arborplex. It meets all the requirements, and holds up well. Lots and lots of better rope out there though. Unless you're planning on spending lots of time between 60' and 75' up, I'd go with a 120' rope, less weight, less rope to pull through when you recrotch.

You'll need a rope clip or 'biner to attach your climbing line to your saddle, (2 if you're using the split tail system). I'd also get a lanyard, flipline, buckstrap, or something to use as a secondary tie in when you're advancing your TIP. And don't forget the PPE, hardhat or preferably helmet and glasses at the bare minimum, more if you're chain sawing.

Good luck, be safe, and have fun.

Hey masiman-what ended up being your verdict on those buck velcro wrap pads?

I was just about to write you that I liked them :). Mine should be here on Thursday from Wesspur.

I climbed one with the padded on my right and the steel wrap on my left. At first I could not tell a difference, but I found myself favoring my right foot after a little bit due to the extra comfort. The steel wraps did not seem to bad overall. Of course I will never be able to climb in L-pads again.

I'll ship them back after the holiday.

Where to climb?

I climb my, neighbors and county trees. I have permission to climb on the first two. The county trees are in a rarely if ever accessed area. I have decided to start maintaining that land for them such as taking out danger trees, cleaning up the fence line, etc. When I climb, I am climbing for removals so I am on spikes. I will try some foot locking when workload slows later this summer.
