I use to build quite a bit with Koa, i even made a gunstock out of it one time and i do still have a little of it around. Last time i priced Koa, the price had really went up.

hawaii certainly has some unique wood, my favorite being koa and mango, both are both just out of control when finished nice.

A big koa tree fell recently on state land and was being doled out to local woodworkers for about $25-30 a board foot on site if i remember correctly. never thought of a gunstock, but man i can only imagine how nice that would look.
 
That's what I'm talkin' about! Beautiful wood, love the shape of that big first log. At least they're using the right chainsaw for the job!

The bandmill's overall design is very much like how I'm building mine, but much larger (and electric).
