Im almost positive thats American elm. Not bad firewood. Starts easy, burns a little quick, not too bad, and leaves medium ash. I use it to first start a fire cause it catches quick when dry, and puts out decent heat.
All the American Elm I cut has no damn bark left. I think it burns great it isn't as good as Red Elm IMO... but if I see one I will add it to the wood pile, I use it mainly for emergency wood. I believe I've burned more American Elm this year than anything. It doesn't like to be split, it wears me out. But to answer your question it does look like Elm.
