I tried out a 440 and never looked back. Ran it for two days of road opening up last week. I find I don't get as tired if there's a truck with a plow on it to push the cut up trees off the road. I do run a shorter bar than is standard. 28 inch instead of a 32.

Get some pastel earplugs and wrap them up too.

If your wife is anything like women I know, she will care a lot more about design. in that case, why not let her choose?
either way you may offer counseling if needed...

Oh yeah she is in on the selection. Its her birthday present because we already agreed we have spent far too much on christmas presents for each other already.

Another vote for the 353 / 2152 . Often stays in the shadow of the 346 but same quality and features as the 346, just a little less peak power. On the other hand more forgiving powerband than the 346. Costs less and will last you forever!

So my wife says she wants a chainsaw. This is not too unusual. She grew up on a ranch driving tractors and such. She also wants a bobcat but that will have to wait a bit longer I think. She complains that my Jred 670 is just too heavy and she wants a smaller saw for limbing etc. I had a stihl 021Av that she liked for its size. It ran well and cut alot of wood over the years but I found it far too small for my liking and the tiny teeth on the chain sucked. So I want something a bit bigger than that. I am thinking about 40 cc, able to run a 16-20 inch bar, lighter than my 670champ. I am going with Husky or Jonsered because I have dealer support with those saws and I have sworn off stihl at this point. The other saw makes do not have enough parts support locally. So given those parameters I have been looking at saws like the Husky 435, 445, 339xp, 346xp and Jonsered 2238 and 2245. Would prefer proven long term models with high sales numbers and reasonable parts prices and large parts inventories. Is that a tall order or what? Recommendations?

Have fun finding a 40cc saw that will run a 20'' bar!

46cc... depends on your definition of "run":

I love these saws for the wife threads. My simple advice based on personal experience...buy the absolute best saw you can that has the following qualities...easy to start is first and most important quality!! Low vibration, good power, easy to clean and maintain...especially things like tightening the chain. Weight really depends on the girl..big girl..a bigger saw is in order! The wife's values are the same as yours..wants a good running saw that's well put together. I did the typical..little 33cc Homelite...and it served well as a carpentry saw for her...went to a Husqvarna 440e..but it need more power..and she will now take over a 50cc or 60cc work saw. My wife is way more suited to the little Husqvarna 351 Motomedic built..just have to make it start easier. So something like a new Husqvarna 353 or 346 (or Stihl equivalent) would be a good saw.

A 445 would be a better all around saw, but 1 LB. heavier.
A 2238 may be similar to 235-240 Husqvarna/Poulan clones,
they don't get much respect on AS.
The Stihl 211 does, but OP stated he wasn't interested in creamsickles.

so why get another stinkin husky? or husky remake for that matter?

All jokes aside id be looking at a 211 equivilant.

What a bunch of dopes.

You are a man buying a saw for a woman, newsflash for ya: it won't work.

You want to do the right thing? Let Uncle Nitro steer you in the right direction.

Hand her a wad of cash, drop her off at the Husky dealer and YOU go do something AWAY from where she is. When she calls you, go pick her up and applaud her choice of saw. You'll make her happy. Keep the chain sharp for her and you'll both be happy.

A man buying a saw for a woman! I almost pee'd my pants laughing.

Best thing I ever did was by the wife a saw. Its her favorite all time Christmas present.

The saws wives buy for themselves the most in our shop are MS192 rear handle saws, MS211 CB-E, and MS250CB-E saws.
