milled this maple today...hard or soft??? Not sure myself. It was growing on the back side of an old pond dam so I figure its soft. If so whats soft Map. good for..qualities etc..

Also a new pic of my stash so far. Again trying to accumulate enough wood to panel the inside of my hunting cabin. Its going to be 1100 square feet so I got my work cut out for me!

Thanks for all the help and great info from all. Woodshop I took your advice and edged all the boards with bark on them, there's a pic of that too.

I agree, looks a lot like the silver maple I milled last year. What is soft maple good for? Almost anything you would use hard maple for. It is not as pure, usually dries to a darker color than hard maple, but almost as hard. When they say soft, some people think the wood is actually soft like pine or cedar. Not at all. Some soft maples are pretty hard and dense. Silver being one of them.
