I went to a garage sale this morning and they had a bunch of stuff. I asked if they had any chainsaws (CAD has got me good). They took me to the back of the garage and opened a closet and showed me three saws. They said $15 each or $30 for all three. I didn't hesitate, I bought them. They are McCulloch Pro Mac 605, John Deere 450V (Echo 4500), and a little Homelite XL. I took them home, cleaned them up, and tried to start all of them. They all started and ran for a few seconds. I'd say they need carb work.

Great find there! Can't beat ten bucks apiece.

More proof of what I keep saying. There are plenty of unwanted, and therefore cheap, saws out there. There is no need to pay silly prices bidding for saws on E-bay, except maybe for some of the rare exotic stuff.

But even then patience, and being in the right place at the right time is where the deals are. I had a customer this week who scored a very nice Jonsered 70E. He was delivering wood to an older guy who no longer cuts his own, and it was just hanging in the barn. He knocked $75 off the load of wood and took it home.

Best part of the story is that the saw went to a good home in the sense that the guy was out of work and had started selling some firewood this year to make some money. He was getting by on some old Poulans and a small Husky, and he really needed a decent/larger saw.
