I have a Homelite 500 bow saw. I had never seen a saw like this one. Runs good. Is this a collectors saw? What would the value be? Very unusual saw. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

COMMENTS: Low cost consumer chain saw

Some people like the bow saws and will buy it.Can you post a picture?I'd like to see it.

I have several old saws. 68 Mac-10, 75 Remington Power lite, Homelite Old Blue, and several Homelites from the 70's. As soon as I finish with it I will post pics. Thanks for the help.

They're not 'big money' collector's saws. The bow bar setup is somewhat desireable to collectors. The 500 (and the Buz) were lower price point saws (based on the more expensive Zip series) meant to compete with the McCulloch Mac15 and the various Mono/Wards, Clinton, and similar "farmer"/"consumer" saws of the time period. They had many parts made of stamped/welded steel rather than die cast magnesium. The crankshaft is also a simpler part, as is the gravity fed Tillotson HC carburetor (a Tillotson HL, but without the pump section).

I have a Homelite Buz, as well as a Mono built Wards WD60 and a Bolens Thrifty 3010 (a friend's saw) that are all in this same saw class, and all have the Tillotson HC carb. Funny thing is, folks that see these saws think they're older than they really are because of the simple layout of them. I've seen several CL ads where the seller states that the saw is from the 1930's, 1940's, or 1950's. Truth is, most of these saws were made in the early-mid 1960's...
