How Do You Feel When Someone Renege's On A Sale?

So I make an offer on a saw, it is accepted with an explanation of a timeline given for offers, then the individual closes their AS mail (so they can't receive any more emails), and they then set up to sell elsewhere.

How would you feel about this?

yep......had it happen very recently on AS with a newbie who wanted to swap a saw....they got a slightly better offer after we had an agreement............had to pray about it for a couple of days.......needed some help to forgive. i have driven two hours to have someone jerk me around on the price.....i just got back in the car and went home.....i had a 4 mix sold out from under me a month ago after EVERYTHING except the money exchange was complete....bottom line is that when i give my word, i stand by it.....at least i can sleep......not everyone operates this way and i factor it in when things don't go my way.

I've had this happen to me more times than I can count, here and other places. I was talking about this very subject recently on the phone with another member of this site, and he brought up a very good point. "It's only a chainsaw" he said, "There's plenty more out there and better specimens of that model to boot."

I've found this to be very true. When you miss out on what you think might be a good deal, there's another good deal that you'll run into eventually. Even if you think it's a rare or highly desirable piece, there's more lurking in someone's garage/attic/barn/storage unit. It'll surface someday. Patience can be a very rewarding state of mind.

take the medications prescribed by her psychiatrist.
Went into my garage and tried to stand up my custom Harley off kickstand.
Fell into steel beam and hit gas tank.
This was a $1000 factory custom paint job with custom paint job decal.

Her reaction........wait for it.........."It's just a little dent....I'll pay for it"....

Then....wait for it....she asks me to give her $3 so she can buy cigarettes!!!!

My heart is in my stomach and my stomach is in my bowels...

As my ole Grandpa used to say...."It could always be worse"...and it could....
It could have fell on her and crippled her or even killed her.
(well...that's what I'm trying to convince myself)

Been telling my son lately how important it is not to retaliate in any way, even in his mind. He can be pretty hot tempered. My usual reply is, "If you do or say that, then you become what they are." Funny how a thief hates it when someone steals from him, or the tough guy gets his butt whipped and is all embarrassed and dares anyone to say anything, or . . . a guy reneges on a deal but screams foul and uses words like thief when the same thing happens to him. This one guy I know is wealthy but I wouldn't want to be his wife or child. He's what I think of when someone says, "That's worth about as much as a rich mans promise."
Mainly I just file things away for future use and try as much as I can to be a better man than I was the day before.

You did the right thing Nitroman. Everyone should be aware that someone posting on AS For Sale doesn't especially mean squat. Do your due diligence and see what kind of a history a person has, then commit. I've made two separate private offers on this site for chainsaws and been turned down. I didn't fault anyone, I'm fairly new here and need to establish myself.

Ever notice that a thief usually isn't any richer than anyone else just because he takes things? The same is true for an honest man, he usually isn't any poorer just because he makes it a point to be honest.

Sorry for carrying on, been a good productive afternoon. I'll never cease to be amazed at how the ground thumps when the big logs hit.

haven't had anyone back out of a deal yet, but i did have a guy offer to sell a good running 048 here and i tried several pm's while he was online here that went ignored. why'd he offer to sell it then? i've called and called craigs list adds just to find out someone called a day or two later and got the saw.

whenever someone screws me over i try to think of it this way. whatever i lost, that was the price i had to pay to find out what kind of person that was, and now i know better than to trust them again.
