husquavarna 460 rancher help

got a husky 460 rancher. went to change the chain and thcover will not go back on. the band is too small to fit over the drive. i need to compress the spring to make it fit. how do i do this? i cant figure it out.

:agree2: u have to get the cover on enough to allow u to pull it off, takes so doing but can be done...or atleast that's what I've heard, cuz..ah..I've never done that:taped:

You took the cover off with the chain brake on.

I once did this on my 353 back in 2003 - it took me several beers and most of an hour to figure it out, + some brute force to fix it - you just have to find some way to trip the metal "wheel" that connects the brake parts in the cover to the ones in the saw body the right way (I don't remember the details, as I never repeated the mistake).

My old dealer use to keep a handle around to un-trip the brake for that simple reason.

Its a pain to get it back on without, but it can be done.

had a 455 husky (first saw with brake) and did the same thing thought I broke the saw for a few minutes I was :censored:

Anybody that owns a Husky with that brake setup will go through this at least once ..................

idk if he fixed it yet but I think he could do it with a pair if needle nose pliers
