I have a few of these old beasts and love them. After looking through my parts cabinet i realized i have just about enough to make another one.
It seems there are some variations with the ring pin locations... The particular jug im using has a casting number of 833/2a and when i took it apart had a husky piston fitted in it with the ring pins on the front. A piece of the piston crown broke off and fortunately didnt harm the jug whatsoever.
I bought a new GOLF piston and it is setup the same way with the ring pins on the exh side, problem is when in the cylinder i can just about see the end gap of the rings on both sides (i assume thats what broke the crown on the oem piston) Before anyone asks, jug is bone stock and not ported.
I flipped it around and the end gaps seem to be nestled perfectly in between the intake and transfer windows. Should i just flip it around and ignore the arrow on top?? Or does anyone have any good reviews on another aftermarket piston with better pin locations? As it is im not all too thrilled about this piston, gonna need a bunch of cleanup around the windows from a poor cast.

You can just about see the ring pin in the corner
