Hi everybody!

I manage recently to get a Husqvarna 288 xp!

I started to dismantle and clean everything so I can make a spare parts needed list.

The original Mahle piston is a AB type (as I've heard 2/10 of mm wider than stock).

Most probably carbon from exhaust port fell in the cylinder and scored the piston.

I cleaned as much as I could and post some photos as I need some advise.

I got a Meteor type B new piston but it would be great if I could use the Mahle.

You think is usable?

The cylinder is original Mahle and in really good condition apart of the fact.

Any advise would be great!

Many thanks 😊

Hi all!

Thanks for the replies!
Unfortunately the Meteor is a B type.
I got some photos of the rings fitted.

From Mahle AB

I measure the gap looks like 60/100 of a mm in this case.

And from new Meteor B

what is the gap on the meteor?.. I like around 10 or 11 to be safe and check your piston shirt gap.... If a gap is a little under I sometimes carefully take a couple of thou off the ring. - carefully with a very fine file I might be right or wrong but if they are too tight I don't like to risk it on a piston that size.

Hi all!

Thanks for the replies 😊😊

I manage to get some photos of the rings fitted just above exhaust port.

This is the old original ring with clearance 65/100 of a mm.

And this is the new Caber ring that came with new Meteor B type.
Clearance 20/100 of a mm.
