Husqvarna 340 crank seal replacement

What's the reason for the spacer on the top, ( cylinder side ) of the crank seals on a husqvarna 340? I have never seen them on any other saw.
They are shown on the IPL, top right of the screen copy.

Assuming they anchor the seals,can see indented area on the seal with disassembly.

I got a good look at it this morning.
They sort of "bridge " across the bottom of the transfer ports and give the crank seals something to seal on.
