I acquired a pair of white top 61 ranchers. 1 has the tillotson 163 carb on it, 1 has a walbro. I got a carb kit and fuel line/filter for the 163 and its up and running. The walbro rebuild kit has been harder to locate. I was thinking of just buying another 163 and putting on it instead. Doing some reading here it became apparent that there's another tillotson that was used on later 61's. My question is: What tillotson should I replace the Walbro with? I dont have intentions of doing anything with the P&C at his point as far as upgrades go. Im just looking for the best plug and play option for this saw.

Tillotson HS254B
But, lots of clones are available also for under $16 shipped. Check E-bay.
If I go with the HS254, will I need to get a new intake block and boot to mount the air filter to or will they cross over from whats left of the walbro?

Not sure. Perhaps posting a Pic of what you have installed now would show modifications, if any. The HS254B is the OEM carb model.
Its a bone stock saw as far as I know. The model on the walbro matches up with what the acres site lists for the stock carb on the white top 61 rancher

Based on the Pic in post #9, it looks like you will need all that for mounting a new HS254B carb. There are two screws holding the air filter on mine and the intake block and boot are indeed different.

From the info I have the walbro was on the 61 "pratica" which was another name for the saws that became the rancher line. You can find the tilly 163 on eBay guys frequently take them off. They are a smaller carb then what was on the 272. when people do that conversion they don't want the smaller carb. The kit number for the WS-17B now called the 17-1 is K10-WS, D10-WS. It looks like it was also on the husky 162 Rancher

What he said.
1983 model 61. Differentiated from 162SE by open port cylinder/piston, plastic tank & Walbro carb with mounting bolts going all the way into the cylinder.
