Got a basic Alaskan 36, I talked to Sean G., who has a 24 and he said he wished he had bought the 36.

If you plains saw, does it help at all to rock the log back and forth to get a square edge, or is it too hard to line up?

Not hard, just use a framing square to line up your guide on the next cut after rolling the log over. It all depends on the situation for me. If the log is too big to roll, or the terrain too unstable or unpredictable, I'll just plainsaw it and edge it with a circular saw and guide when I get home. If I've got some help, I'll roll it to get one clean edge on the boards and finish them on the table saw. If its a valuable log with some size, I'll search for the best face and maximize the output of the log.
