I had a chance with a new one from 1987 last year for 700.00 It seemed too rich then

As above. 1400.00 for a 500.00 saw seems rich. But not everyone can have the Cadilac of Chainsaws.

Any thoughts on the 5-30 N homelite on EBAY? 125cc but I know nothing about this saw

I believe the 625 is a "boot" saw and 272 is a "block" saw. Referring to intake style.
to answer your question....... Maybe...... With all of the 272 intake and carb assembly, possibly. I bet someone here has made the swap but I am unsure of throttle and choke linkage.......

The way the carburetor is connected to the cylinder. Find yourself the IPL on a 625 And 272 and you will see the difference clearly.
