I recently cabled a small japanese maple and was using a cable end grip on one end and a splice on the other.

I had a real problem getting the cable wrapped properly with the end grip and get the thimble in place as well.

Anybody have any tricks to make this easier?

What I ended up doing was cutting the thimble shorter and it worked OK but didn't look great to me. Customer was happy and looks ok from a distance but doesn't look as good to a close inspection.
