This came out of a loop of Stihl 33 RS.
Can you see that angle on the face of the top plate
and the overall geometry of the side of the cutter?

I just thought it was a bit "interesting".
For a moment, it kind of makes me think of
some sorta hybrid attempt at a square ground geometry.
umm Nah, Seems more likely that the stone needed dressing though

..just got a feeling that I'll have a file on the chain pretty soon.

I bought it to run on that Poulan 5020.
Probably has about 5~6 mins cutting on the chain.
After running for a few minutes, there just wasn't enough adjustment
to cope with the extra 2 links worth of length (70 vs 72 dl).

My inexperienced eyes see:
-The side plate edge is inconsistant
-There is no heating of the cutter anywhere
-The file or filer didnt take any of the top plate cutting angle (on the bottom) away.

My guess ................ big file was used

This chain threw me for a loop - who in the world would do this ??????

It looks like something got out of whack on the auto grinder used to produce those chains. That saw chain is likely the result of the beginning or end of a production run where the tolerance may not have been right. If you're unhappy with the chain, return it unused to the dealer to exchange for another one. If you are happy with the chain, just continue on using a 13/64" round file to keep it sharp. I've found that my RS chains are usually a little more aggressive after round filing off the factory grind.

Ditto on the thinking it was a production glitch.
I was planning to grab the files an give it a personal touch.
Had pretty good luck getting that Oregon chain,
(that I nicked the driveway with), to cut decent again
http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/192321-33.htm
so I just figured on grabbing a new file and continuing to refresh
of my chain filling efforts.
Seems that my freehand filling worked better for me and
I'm rusty with using the little clamp on jig.

That old tooth setter is handy for brush cutter blades.
Yeah, Ya can peen them over with a 6oz ball peen, if needed.
just easier to get consistent teeth using the setter tool.

Does seem that we are a crowd that likes our edge making and refining, doesn't it!
