Hello!

Recently we had a sapsucker poke holes in a 1 sqft area on the trunk of our holly tree. My husband chipped away at the bark to see what was "under there" because he thought it was a bug... anyways, he completely removed the bark on the 1 sq.ft. area on the front half of the trunk. The bark on the other half is still in tact, but I'm worried our tree is ruined. Any opinions/feedback welcome (but no poking fun at my hubby, he's already heard enough from me ;) )

Thanks!

Sapsuckers drill rectangular shaped holes. They're after the sap.(Sugar)Doesn't harm the tree,it's just unsightly. If the holes are round, then your dealing with woodpeckers which are looking for insects.
More than likely the tree will be fine.Eventually it will build a callus around the wound
