The most obvious differences is that the 2171 (and Husky 372xp) has a side access chain tensioner, and weights .3 kg (2/3 lbs) more.
From what I have read earlier the added weight probably has something to do with correction of weaknesses in the original design (Husky 371/Jred 2071), but I am far from sure of this.

2071 2171

There must be someone out there who know more than me......

They changed the shape of the crank on PTO side.Just behind the clutch threads where the size of the crank change, they modify to a beveled(slight) from square shape to avoid crank breakage.

Has crank breakage been very severe on the 2070? I am on the lookout for a used 71 cc J'red to replace my tired 670. Should I hold out for a 2171?

Also was the 2070 the replacement for the 670? It looks like they stroked the 670 by 2mm for the 2070.

Thanks.

The crank breakage was not severe, one here and there, you can buy 2070 w/o any problems.670 was completely another generation model, everything is different from 2071/2070.

Replacement ?

In a way I think you could say that 2171 eventually took the 670's place in the model line-up, but I think the 670 and 2071 were sold "side by side" for a few years.
The 2071 was basically the same saw as the Husky 371, and more a result of the coordination prosess between Huskys and Jreds model line-up, than a repacement for any spesific Jred model.
