I picked up a 266xp from A member her a while back. It “ran” prior to teardown but not well. Comp was 200# which was odd. Base gasket was still there, so, weird…
previous owner had installed a Meteor piston assuming a 266cyl.
I discovered the oddity when I noticed the carb block/spacer was different that a 268 I also have torn down. Couldn’t match that block with anything IPL wise for 50mm Husky.
tried Jons…there it is, 630 model.
the crank #s check for a 266. I have a now 50mm piston and it does not quite match the Meteor. Not just windowed vs non…OE is taller by about 2mm and the pin position is off as well.

seems like I got a frankinsaw.
question: will this work?

next task is to try each piston and measure squish.

630

630 Jonsered is still 48mm and basically the same top end as a 162 Husqvarna.
Hm, this is a 50mm cyl/piston. 670?
what I can’t figure out is the intake port. None of the IPLs show one for any husky in 50mm. The 670 shows the other intake type.
what the heck have I got here?
cyl is a Mahle, 50zn13 W2 G…
I have a 268 cyl that is a 50zn14

the intake block pt# does correspond to a 1987 model 66
picture doesn’t match but pt# does

looks like I have a 66 top end, not a 266xp 😒

No 50mm Jonsereds (670) use an intake block.
However, Husqvarna made 50mm cylinders with intake blocks and through the block impulse.
They were somewheres between the 266 and 272 variants of the family.
Right, I have a bunch of the regular blocks…266, 268, 72 and Jons 670. The one that threw me was the 503 49 24-01 which is for the ‘87 Husky 66

the 630 Jons pt# is 501 51 18-03
’87 66 is the 503#
later 66 uses a 501 80 66-02

my brain hurts.
ok, the 66-02 does correspond to some 266s as well as the 1991 66 and 268. Sheesh…too many numbers 🤪

But the 670 has a rubber boot and external impulse- not a resin block internal impulse.
What are we trying to identify here- the intake block or the 50mm cylinder? Being aware there is a 268 open port and 268 closed port variant and getting the wrong piston in one will make it run like a bag of a$$holes?

There were two different intake blocks for the 50mm saws. One for SE and one for XP saws. That may be where the confusion is coming in possibly? SE saws with the HS163 carb had a different block than the XP saws with HS224 carb. Far as I can tell you’ve got the larger XP intake block which isn’t a bad thing.
