Hi John,

Nice safety equipment !

That sucker started to roll on you at the end.

Hi Lobo, in most situations i saw off all holdingwood. This not only prevents fibre pull and butt shatter, but also allows the tree to roll off and away from trees that it may otherwise damage or get hungup in.
I'm not suggesting though that others use the same method as it requires a very sharp and fast saw to severe the wood faster than the tree can fall.

John,

Did you go under the hinge on purpose or it did it just end up that way due to spacing off the other shoot?

Hi Max, the tip emerged below the notch because I had plunged the backcut from one side. Backcuts below are not good for the most part because of loss of control, plus it makes for very hard wedging too.
This particular stem I didn't give much concern to because it was a low grade sawlog and wasn't very big in any case.
How's that for making it sound like I know what I'm doing? :blob2:

It makes me think of one of these

Bad Lobo! Baaad! Never BMP! Not nice!

:D

Save that screenshot as a PNG file and you'll have something like 18 kbyte, instead of 1.8 Mbyte. Save it as a JPG and you'll have something like 180 kbyte. (Rough rule of thumb)

For screenshots, PNG is usually about 1/10th the size of a JPG, and JPG is 1/10th or less the size of a BMP.

Use one of these for photos instead of the built in MS garbage:

....thats a poulan pro 475 that little saw realy runs I would like to have one for fire wood
Just in case you don't know; That saw model started it's life as the Partner P7700 in about 1984, and later it became availiable as the Jred 2077 and Poulan Pro 475. The Poulan version was made by Jred as far I know.

The P7700 was the first saw with the feature later known as "air injection" and "turbo".

MacDaddy,
I don't know what you were trying to do, but it looks like you are trying to get killed. There is no hinge left or look to have one to start with. It can kick-back at any time. My advice hire a professional.

If you can't bring your self to do that; wrap a cable around the base just above the cut and pull opposite of the lean (long cable for safety) with a tractor or crawler. Preferbly a crawler.
