Large old oak trees

We have some very large, old oaks that are holding water where the branches fork out in different directions.

What can we do to prevent this ponding of water in the tree?

It sounds like there is an 'included' crotch or union in the tree that forms a pocket. Then the water will slowly leak out over time.

Usualy this does not cause any problems beyond the aesthetic, but is is a sign of a potential weakness in the tree.

If a drain hole were drilled, it would open the tree to possible decay.

I have heard of prople using spray foam to fill voids.
