I have four live oaks about twelve yaers old. My question is how can I stop or slow the amount of acorns that are produced in the fall?

I don't believe there is a feasable solution to your problem. Just the nature of the tree. Nature decided that oak trees drop acorns to ensure survival of the species. Acorn production may be heavier following stress to the trees (drought, heavy pruning, wind damage, etc.). Following that logic, healthier trees would produce less acorns.
Other than that, having the trees moved or even cut down would be the only certain solution. :(
